Gianantonio Abate was born in Como. He began to show his work in 1983 with a solo exhibition at the Diagram Gallery in Milan. On that occasion he presented a series of works titled "Pittografie" that translate on a curved wooden supports a kind of environmental energy, dynamic structures and swirling, echoing the historical lesson of Futurism. Since 1984, the work of Abate is configured in a poetry inspired by the urban world, artificial, mass-media. The artist began to use plastics, manufacturing environmental products that investigate the relationship between the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional, with a very shiny and reflective mindset, in opposition to the then prevailing fashion of neo- expressionist painting.

In addition to several solo exhibitions held in Italy and in Europe, the artist has participated in numerous exhibitions including: Groninger Museum "With the new futurist", Groningen; Rotonda della Besana, Milan; Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt; Kunstverein Hannover, Hannover; Bregenz Kunstverein, Bregenz; Kunstverein Wien, Vienna; Castello di Rivara, Rivara; Bologna Gallery of Modern Art; Biennale di Venezia; Rome Quadrennial; Italian Cultural Institute, Madrid; Italian Cultural Institute, Barcelona; Municipal Art Gallery, Ravenna; Palazzo Guasco, Alessandria; Castello di Volpaia, Palazzo della Ragione, Padua; XVIII Triennale, Milan; Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome; XXXII Biennale di Milano; Palazzo delle Albere, Trento; Museum Depero, Rovereto; Museum of Modern Art, San Marino; Museo d’arte urbana Campidoglio; National Gallery of Modern Art Torino, Torino.
